The court ruling came in response to a Freedom of Information lawsuit filed against Farouq by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP). The judge ordered the minister to explain why each beneficiary received 5,000, equivalent to 5% of Nigeria’s budget for 2021.
