A court has ordered Sadiya Umar Farouq, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, to account for 729 billion Naira in ‘payments to millions of underprivileged Nigerians’

Certainly! A Federal High Court in Lagos ordered Sadiya Umar Farouq, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disasters Management, and Social Development, to submit a full account of how 729 billion was distributed to 24.3 million underprivileged Nigerians over six months. The court ruling came in response to a Freedom of Information lawsuit filed against Farouq by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP). The judge ordered the minister to explain why each beneficiary received 5,000, equivalent to 5% of Nigeria’s budget for 2021.
